Top Ten Tuesday: Book Cover Redesigns You Loved or Hated

Dear Rebellious Readers,

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog post hosted by  The Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s topic is Book Cover Redesigns you loved or hated.

1. Ember for Ashes by Sabaa Tahir: I love the original cover and HATE the redesign

This original cover is gorgeous. Just stunning. The Rock Wall with the title buried in it, the girl standing outside it, the buildings. Orginal and draws you in.

Now this monstrosity. It looks cheap and not original and the only color I see is red and way too much of it.  Looking at this ugly thing hurts my eyes and offends me to my core.

2. Seafire by Natalie C. Parker: The original cover is okay but the second cover is so badass. This is going to be a total cover buy for me.

3. The Diviners by Libba Bray: I love the original cover. It fits the book and has something to do with the story plus it is so pretty with the New York background. The new cover has nothing to do with the book. I am confused by the pearls that are broken because I don’t remember them having anything to do with the book.

4. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell: The original cover isn’t bad but it doesn’t stand out like the redesign which has amazing artwork of the two main characters.

5. Frigid by Jennifer L Armentrout: I love the original cover. It fits the story which is a romance that takes place in ski cabin. The second cover is just a generic romance novel cover they didn’t care about.

I was a bit busy this week so I only did five. What cover redesigns did you love and which did you hate? Tell me in the comments.

Yours in Rebellion,

  1. These are some great observations here. I think some redesigns can rock because a more in-tune illustrator is chosen and sometimes the redesigns are marketing at certain groups and lose the magic I think.

  2. I don’t like the redesign on Ember either. It looks dated. Also, YES to the CARRY ON paperback cover. The artwork is amazing!! And UGHHH The Diviners 😦 They’ve totally ruined the series with all the covers they tried to make work. The original was fine!!

    1. I don’t know who was in change of the Diviners cover change but he might need to read the book before they just slam a random cover on it. Ember was so orginal and now I don’t even want to look at book 4s cover. 3 was so bad.
