Genre: Adult Romantic Suspense
Summary from Goodreads:
Recovering from his injuries inflicted by a South American Drug Cartel while undercover, Logan Phelps was only to do recon as Professor Perkins when he gained an invitation to dine with Courtney Swanson, the daughter of a California Senator who was completing her doctorate using wild dolphins to detect drug drops off the coast of Baja, Mexico. The attraction between the two is immediate and explosive, just like the Mexican gang sent to detain Courtney. A private company, The Agency, hired by Senator Swanson to protect his daughter, is kept from carrying out the job due to immigrant rioting along the Mexico-California border. It becomes a race against time to save Courtney and Logan in Tijuana from two separate entities that wish them harm, as well as finding the mole in The Agency before any operatives are killed.
*I won a copy of this book in a giveaway and winning this book in no way influenced my review*
Courtney Swanson is working on completing her dissertation in Mexico which focuses on teaching dolphins to find drug drops kind of like drug dogs. Courtney’s father is a Calforiana Senator and wants to use her work to make a deal with the Mexican government in hopes of stopping more drugs from getting over the border. Logan Phelps is back on the job after begin captured and tortured on his last mission for the Agency. When he is hired to get close to Courtney to get information about her work there is a spark between them before they know it they are running for their lives and getting closer and closer to each other.
Courtney is an amazing heroine. She is more comfortable in the water and around dolphins then people. She is super intelligent having dual degrees in IT and Biology. I loved that she worked with animals and some of my favorite scenes were of her training the dolphins. I do wish there were more dolphin scenes. She has a very personal reason for wanting to stop drugs coming into America. I loved Logan. He doesn’t want to get involved with Courtney because this is just supposed to be another job for him, but he can’t fight his attraction to her. I love how protective he is of Courtney. Watching Courtney and Logan fall for each other and learn to trust the other was the best part of the book. They have great chemistry and you know after this they will have a long lasting relationship. I loved how the story was told from so many PoVs. It added so much depth to the story even if my favorite parts were told from Courtney and Logan’s PoVs. One of my favorite scenes was when Courtney and Logan were *minor spoiler* stranded on the boat alone at sea and opened up to each other. It was a very moving scene and really showed that they could have something together. I really loved David, Logan’s Partner and really hope he gets his own story. This book is very action packed from boat chases to undercover agents to bullets flying evey where. Courtney and Logan seemed to always be in danger and you are always on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. The writing at points was great, some points good and some points it needed work. But this is only the author’s second book and can’t wait to read more of her work and see her improve. The plot, story, and characters make up for any little stumbles in the writing. Dive Beneath and fall in love with Courtney and Logan like I did.
