City of Glass Review(Spoilers from all 3 books)

city-of-glass

Genre:Young Adult Fantasy

Goodreads Symmery

To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

My Review(SPOILERS)

After the battle on Valentine’s ship were Clary’s rune power was reveled a shadowhunter women named Madeleine tells her she knows how to wake up her mother.Clary of course jumps at the chance.Turns out her mother put herself in a coma so when Valentine found her he wouldn’t be able to torture information out of her.A warlock named Ragnor Fell who lives in the Shadowhunter country of Idris is the only one who can break the spell and Madeleine thinks he will give the cure to Clary and believe her because she looks just like her mother.Jace on the other hand wants to keep her out of Idris and it’s capital Alicante and will do anything to do it.He is scared that if her rune power is discovered the Clave will use it against Valentine and get her killed.

The Clave also believes that Alicante can’t be overrun with demons because of the glass towers that protect it.They haven’t failed them sense they were built and the only way to take them down is using demon blood and demons can’t get into the city to take down the towers.I wish someone would have pointed out to the Clave that they called the Titianic unsinkable and what did it do?It hit an iceberg and sunk.Nothing is unbreakable or unsinkable or unsolvable.Seeing the Shadowhunter home country was wonderful.Ever sense they said they had one I had be wondering what it looked like and what was so special about it.

Simon who is a vampire now can now walk in the sun and everyone wants to know why and are willing to go to some drastic lengths to find out why.Simon comes to his our as a character in this book and really steps up.He’s not a geeky awkward boy anymore but a confident vampire who is willing to help his people and the people he loves.Alec finally seeing that he loves Magnus and coming out was one of my favorite parts of the book.Watching Magnus and Alec’s relationship unfold and Alec finding himself was just wonderful and done very well. There is new character called Sebastian who plays a huge role and may not be what he seems.

I cryed when the Shadowhunters and Downworlds joined together to fight Valentine.Valentine gets sicker and sicker the more I find out about him and his experiments. What he had hidden was diabolical and made me sick.Finding out Jace and Clary aren’t brother and sister(if you didn’t scream with joy don’t worry I did) was so satisfying.Okay I looked at a spoiler and knew they weren’t related. But still I was so happy when they found out and could love each other without feeling like they were doing something wrong.I loved the kiss between Jace and Clary after finding out the truth. It was so sweet and so longed awaited.

There are some great lines and laugh out loud moments.I was engaged with the characters and they are so well drawn. It had an action packed ending and Valentine’s defeat was sweet revenge.

5 out of 5
